    AbstractMicroorganism immobilization has attracted great attention as a traditional method to overcome aqueous organic wastes containing N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF). In this approach, graphene oxide was modified with functional polymer firstly to obtain micro-composites material (PGO), and then the prepared composites were deposited on the surface of copper mesh (CM) to block the meshes and CM@PGO was achieved. Moreover, cage-shaped model was designed based on CM@PGO and P. denitrificans was packed inside the cage for batch experiments. This strategy could enrich the local concentration of DMF due to the formation of hydrogen bonds with the oxygen-containing groups from PGO and the character of bacteria in captivity could also contribute to the process of degradation. Results showed that the approach could remove DMF more efficiently about 15% compared with free microorganism and presented excellent cycling performance. Meantime, physical adsorption and chemical adsorption were both contributed to the process of PGO adsorption, and the adsorption isotherm fits Langmuir model well, furthermore, the theoretical maximum of adsorption ability calculated through Langmuir model is 95 mg/g. In other words, this cage-shaped CM@PGO provided a facile platform for treating various wastewaters by altering the species of packed microorganisms, which exhibited considerable prospects for wastewater treatment.

    The integration of social science with computer science and engineering fields has produced a new area of study: computational social science. This field applies computational methods to novel sources of digital data such as social media, administrative records, and historical archives to develop theories of human behavior. We review the evolution of this field within sociology via bibliometric analysis and in-depth analysis of the following subfields where this new work is appearing most rapidly: ( a) social network analysis and group formation; ( b) collective behavior and political sociology; ( c) the sociology of knowledge; ( d) cultural sociology, social psychology, and emotions; ( e) the production of culture; ( f) economic sociology and organizations; and ( g) demography and population studies. Our review reveals that sociologists are not only at the center of cutting-edge research that addresses longstanding questions about human behavior but also developing new lines of inquiry about digital spaces as well. We conclude by discussing challenging new obstacles in the field, calling for increased attention to sociological theory, and identifying new areas where computational social science might be further integrated into mainstream sociology.

    In some languages, distributive markers/quantifiers can attach to the argument that is being distributed (the distributive share), as opposed to the restrictor of the sentence (the distributive key). Researchers agree that distributive share markers can also distribute over events (and not only individuals), but disagree as to what these markers are semantically – universal distributive quantifiers or event plurality (pluractional) markers. In this paper, we experimentally probe spatial event distribution. On a universal quantification account, exhaustive distribution over a spatial distributive key is enforced, while on the pluractional analysis there is no such requirement. We carried out two picture verification experiments to test exhaustivity requirements in intransitive sentences with distributive share markers from two typologically different languages: the Serbian marker po and the Korean marker -ssik. We found evidence for an exhaustivity requirement over pluralities of non-atomic individuals (groups), but not over designated spatial locations. We interpret these findings as evidence that the semantics of (spatial) event distribution with distributive share markers involves a (spatial) distributive key. Specifically, po/-ssik have a universal quantificational force (with a meaning akin to per (each)) establishing a distributive relation between individual events and elements of the spatial distributive key. Plural individuals made salient in the visual input can serve to divide up the spatial key into chunks of space that have to be exhausted.

    Measuring Food Insecurity: The Problem with Semantics

    Rising rates of hunger and food insecurity have sparked a major re-evaluation of all aspects of food systems. Because of the multifaceted nature of food insecurity, however, determining what actions should be taken is challenging, especially since reevaluation efforts are led by experts from several disciplines and there is no consensus about which indicators should be used and how they should be measured. Confusion surrounding the meaning of the terms ‘food security’ and ‘food insecurity’ has contributed to this lack of consensus. As indicators inform action, such confusion has slowed those committed to alleviating hunger in identifying the most pressing targets. This review highlights (1) the importance of clearly defining food security and food insecurity and (2) how such definitions affect measures of food insecurity in the United States. While some might say that definitions are an issue of the past or a trivial matter of semantics, we believe that the world’s present rates of hunger and malnutrition are attributable, at least in part, to the lack of consensus on these definitions and their accompanying measurements and indicators. Although the present review can be helpful to academics and policy makers, the primary purpose is to be a resource to those involved in the day-to-day production of food, such as ranchers and farmers by providing an overview of definitions, indicators, and measurements used when discussing food security.

    A doença causada pelo coronavírus (COVID-19), inicialmente descrita em Wuhan, China, foi recentemente declarada pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) como uma pandemia global. A idade avançada e a presença de comorbilidades, características bem definidas na população portadora de tumores sólidos, foram interpretadas como fatores de risco para doença grave e morte. O estado de imunodepressão relacionado com o cancro e os seus tratamentos associados também parece desempenhar um papel ativo no prognóstico, resposta e resultados clínicos neste tipo de doentes. Apesar dos doentes oncológicos metastizados não serem bons candidatos para o tratamento em Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI), o prognóstico individual deve ser tido em consideração. Descrevemos um caso de um doente com neoplasia da próstata (CaP) metastizado (estádio IV) infetado pelo SARS-CoV-2, que necessitou de UCI e recuperou da infeção pelo COVID-19.

    Reducing Urban Traffic Congestion via Charging Price

    Traffic jams are one of the major transportation problems. The United States spends USD billions to mitigate the problem, and not always with good outcomes. This problem increases and has effects on sustainable transport, such as life quality, pollution, perishables, and costs. Large cities reduce traffic jams through congestion charges. This paper aims to reduce urban traffic congestion by estimating the charge through a multivariable model. It studies the main jammed areas in Santiago, Chile. The data came from published surveys. The model evaluation included Fisher multiple regression (F) and the determination coefficient (R2). These validations showed that the model is statistically significant. They also showed that the parameter estimation was good. Finally, this model contributes to improving the Sustainable Development Goals, such as SDG 3, SDG 11, and SDG 13, which may be successfully applied to Santiago City, as well as to any city worldwide.

    AbstractThe joint evaluated fission and fusion nuclear data library 3.3 is described. New evaluations for neutron-induced interactions with the major actinides$$^{235}\hbox {U}$$235U,$$^{238}\hbox {U}$$238Uand$$^{239}\hbox {Pu}$$239Pu, on$$^{241}\hbox {Am}$$241Amand$$^{23}\hbox {Na}$$23Na,$$^{59}\hbox {Ni}$$59Ni, Cr, Cu, Zr, Cd, Hf, W, Au, Pb and Bi are presented. It includes new fission yields, prompt fission neutron spectra and average number of neutrons per fission. In addition, new data for radioactive decay, thermal neutron scattering, gamma-ray emission, neutron activation, delayed neutrons and displacement damage are presented. JEFF-3.3 was complemented by files from the TENDL project. The libraries for photon, proton, deuteron, triton, helion and alpha-particle induced reactions are from TENDL-2017. The demands for uncertainty quantification in modeling led to many new covariance data for the evaluations. A comparison between results from model calculations using the JEFF-3.3 library and those from benchmark experiments for criticality, delayed neutron yields, shielding and decay heat, reveals that JEFF-3.3 performes very well for a wide range of nuclear technology applications, in particular nuclear energy.

    The Origins and Psychology of Human Cooperation

    Humans are an ultrasocial species. This sociality, however, cannot be fully explained by the canonical approaches found in evolutionary biology, psychology, or economics. Understanding our unique social psychology requires accounting not only for the breadth and intensity of human cooperation but also for the variation found across societies, over history, and among behavioral domains. Here, we introduce an expanded evolutionary approach that considers how genetic and cultural evolution, and their interaction, may have shaped both the reliably developing features of our minds and the well-documented differences in cultural psychologies around the globe. We review the major evolutionary mechanisms that have been proposed to explain human cooperation, including kinship, reciprocity, reputation, signaling, and punishment; we discuss key culture–gene coevolutionary hypotheses, such as those surrounding self-domestication and norm psychology; and we consider the role of religions and marriage systems. Empirically, we synthesize experimental and observational evidence from studies of children and adults from diverse societies with research among nonhuman primates.
